Michael
Munro has been a London based pianist and jazz singer since 2003. Prior
to that he was based as a musician in New Zealand. He has written and
produced two jazz programs for New Zealand's 'National Radio', where he
has original music currently on air. Michael has also written and produced
over 100 television and radio soundtracks from 1988 to 1996. At this time
he also produced and directed a number of television commercials. From 2003 Michael was based in London performing at venues including; Rubens at the Palace, The Mayfair Millennium, The Milestone, The Oyster Bar in Sloane Street, Le Quecumbar, The Melia Whitehouse and Smollensky's On The Strand. As a jazz pianist and vocalist, Michael has performed worldwide with French, British, American, South African and Chinese musicians. Michael has performed at The New Orleans Mardi Gras in the United States, The Green Dolphin Jazz Venue in Cape Town, The Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore, Le Manderin in Tahiti as well as his regular London venues. Michael’s piano style has a strong swing-jazz feel. Having spent time in Cuba and Brazil, he also has a flair for Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban music. He has been influenced by pianists such as Keith Jarrett, Dave Gruisin and Ruben Gonzales. Michael’s bluesy vocals have been influenced by artists such as Donny Hathaway, Billy Withers and Al Jarreau. |
